"Banging on a 2900"
Work Session Status Week Ending 03/23/2013
Our work week began early this week as a special work session was called for Monday. Twenty-two
volunteers came in for the session. (Thanks to all who came to work!) We were expecting State
Officials from the NMDOT regarding the rail crossing on 8th St. and we wanted them to see first
hand what our project was about. They spent several hours and received a first class tour.
Wednesday we took the last of the side rods to the paint shop then retrieved them on Friday morning.
Later on Wednesday three more side rods were slipped into place.
The last counterweight welding was completed. A few more minor cracks are still in need of repair.
One more large heavy square flange for the steam exhaust to the feed water heater was beveled.
The 8" to 6" 75° saddle fabrication was finished. It will be fitted up to the flanges and tack
welded. It will then be removed and welded completely.
Foot board brackets were installed on the fireman's side. Some of the mounting stud bolts will need to
Photos were taken of a few of our lanterns. They will be available for sale in the future.
Metal retainer shields are being fabricated to fit over areas that are insulated.
Cab wood installation is 99% complete. Only small trim areas remain. Window frames are being fabricated
Saturday's work session was cut short due to high winds and cold temperatures. Reverend Ed S. has on
high authority the next two work sessions will have more comfortable conditions.
The Officer's and members of 2926 wish to extend our deepest sympathy to one of our members who lost his
wife during the week, Pat H. Our prayers and thoughts are with you Pat.
Hope to see you all on site this week and as always . . .
Keep on Steamin',
Rick Kirby, CMO
