"Banging on a 2900"

Work Session Status Week Ending 07/20/2013

July 22, 2013

The first shipment of flexible staybolt sleeve replacements were received this week. They were checked for proper fit then safely stored.

Work continues fabricating replacement cab supports. Parts are being cut by hand from 3/4" plate steel then grinders are used to bevel the edges that will be welded. This will insure a full penetration weld.

Various metal parts are still being cleaned and painted for later installation.

The hot water boiler feed supply piping is being fit into place customizing it to connect with existing piping. The pump end has been tack welded.

More sheet metal was procured for the various small insulation cover plates needed in areas around the steam cylinders. Cardboard templates are first cut then traced onto the sheet metal for cutting.

Interior cab painting is finished. The cab crew is now restoring small interior cab parts to be installed later.

Wasted flexible staybolt sleeves are still being removed from the firebox. This work will continue for some time to come. Rethreading of salvaged sleeves also continues.

The water injector assembly was cleaned and painted. The internal screen was removed and cleaned. A new gasket for the threaded cap will be cut this coming week.

Parts for one of the trailing truck air brake slack adjusters are being fabricated along with the large block of steel for the adjusting mechanisms inside one of the driver slack adjuster.

There's lots of work to be done at the site so I hope to see you there this week. And as usual . . .
Keep on Steamin',
