NEWS FLASH!!!

As of this past Saturday volunteer hours restoring the 2926 has surpassed 100,000 volunteer hours!

Bob D., who keeps track of the time sheets, informed the BoD members 100,040 hours has been spent cleaning, painting and repairing the big 4-8-4 locomotive. Wednesday was cut short due to old man winter blowing snow up our shirts and we all left around noon. Thanks to all who have given of their time to this great restoration project.

Saturday, however, was a different story. The sun came out and the afternoon was shirt sleeve weather.

The repetitious flexible staybolt sleeve work resumed. Cutting, grinding and shaping them to fit continued as usual.

Heavy welding of the replacement radial buffer is on-going and will be for several weeks.

A new project was launched this week as workers began pressing aluminum bronze bushings into various timing arms. They are replacing the original needle bearings which are no longer available in those configurations.

A second project began as handrails were being removed. They will be cleaned, painted and stored until needed. Their holders will also eventually be removed. The new jacketing will be installed between the holders and the stanchions they sit on.

Two sander pipes were removed, one of which was bent and in need of repair. They were cleaned and painted along with their supports.

Weather looks good this week approaching the 70° mark! So come on out and enjoy the sun and fun (of working on 2926), and as always . . .
