"Banging on a 2900"
Work Session Status Week Ending 11/26/2016
November 29, 2016
Well those hot working temperatures are in the rear view mirror now. Wednesday's starting temperature
is forecasted to be around 22 degrees so this Wednesday's work session has been cancelled. Next
Wednesday may even be worse according to one of our weathermen.
After several sessions of frustrating work the sander valve has been mounted in place. After several
modifications of its support bracket the valve can now be piped up to the sander traps.
The last of the minor firebox leaks have been repaired so we are close to doing a preliminary hydro
Other volunteers worked on the throttle valves removing old surface rust and lapping as needed.
The shuttle wagon crew are still fretting with the leaky hydraulic brake calipers. The stopping
capabilities have been diminishing slowly for awhile. One caliper has been sent to a re-builder
in town and a second rebuild kit has been ordered.
Other folks have been preparing for the Christmas Eve luminaria tour at our site; a first ever for the
2926. It will be adorned with Christmas lights and candle lit brown bags, aka Southwest tradition known
Cab crews are making progress with custom lettering of the various valves and components.
New hand made collectibles have been brought into the site store just in time for gift giving, so check
them out for someone on your gift list. Thank you, Marion, for your great seamstress abilities.
Our Facebook is going great with letters to be bought for the tender repainting on PayPal through the
Facebook site. Julie's doing a great job on our Facebook site and if you don't have a Facebook account
you can still check us out.
Along the mention of Christmas our annual cards will be in the mail by December 1 so be as generous as
you possibly can with the renewal for your membership and any other donation in addition to that. We've
got some big expenditures coming up and need everyone's help to make 2926 the best she can be. We
appreciate what you've all done thus far.
Hope to see everyone Saturday and dress for cold weather with layers if need be, and as always . . .
Keep on Steamin',
Rick Kirby, CMO
