"Banging on a 2900"

Work Session Status Week Ending 06/13/2015

June 15, 2015

Good progress is being done on the air brake linkages. The last shipment of heat treated pins and bushings arrived this past week and are being installed. The heat treatment altered their dimensions by a few thousands of an inch so some final machining has been necessary.

All the steam oil lube lines were connected and manually circulated through the lines until new oil emerged.

While the cab is still off workers have been working on the hard to get at firebox damper. It also is receiving new bushings and hinges. A new damper door is being fabricated due to the poor condition of the original.

The machine shop has been fabricating various parts to begin hydro testing the superheater units. The last one to be fabricated is slated to be finished this coming Wednesday. The superheater crew has worked tirelessly since March of 2014 to complete the superheater re-fabrications. Congratulations go out to those men associated with that difficult project!

Chassis lubricator connectors have been removed, cleaned and are being reinstalled in cramped working conditions.

Various other pipes and parts are still being power-brushed preparing them for paint.

All of the 29 commercially supplied staybolt blanks have been threaded on both ends. We will begin performing the final fit-up next week.

As a result of the poll taken at this month's membership meeting, workers wanted to have the 4th of July to spend with their families or friends. However Dr. Mike stated he would open the site for visitors if others wish to attend.

Hope to see you at the site this week, and as always . . .
