"Banging on a 2900"

Work Session Status Week Ending 03/19/2016

March 22, 2016

Air brake work continued as more brackets were fabricated and components bolted into place. Related piping has also begun.

Clean-up work continued on the fireman's side rear blowdown valve. All internal parts were cleaned and reassembly began. A new gasket will be procured.

Installation of the hot water pump steam supply pipe began. This pipe, for the most part, was destroyed being under the jacket and insulation. Several months ago a new one was fabricated using what was left of the old pipe. Initial fitting of this new pipe revealed it needed a bit more tweaking at one of the bends.

Staybolt plug tightening work is ongoing for those that leaked during past air pressure tests.

At the time of the large air brake reservoir installation weeks ago it was hung just shy of its normal position. All attachments were verified to be loose enough to slide it forward just enough so all pipe union connections could be tightened down complete to the compressors. A new pipe bracket had to be fabricated due to the poor condition of the original. Remaining supports are being secured.

Pipe unions of various systems are receiving anti-seize compound and final tightening as some of these pipes were installed on a trial fit basis.

Excavation began for the engine house. Several areas had buried concrete treasures which needed to be removed for the upcoming foundation. Backfilling of these vacated areas will be done Wednesday the 23rd.

More pipes were fabricated for the fireman's control manifold. Most of which extend below the floor. All of these as well as various other tubing and pipes were insulated and coated.

Things might be a bit cool tomorrow, lower temps than normal as a cool front is going through. Winds might be a problem as well. We'll see what happens as the day progresses tomorrow. Hope to see you at the site this week, and as usual . . .

Keep on Steamin',
