"Banging on a 2900"

Work Session Status Week Ending 05/28/2016

May 31, 2016

The engine building crew made good progress this past week. They finished hanging all the structural steel and completed the installation of the siding and roof metal. I expect the trim pieces will be going on this week and possibly the personnel doors will be cut in.

Our restoration crew continued with work, for the most part, the same as last week.

The air compressor crew has been fixing tiny pipe joint leaks and searching for gremlins in the governors.

The machinists are working on a tool to reface the inner seal of the washout plug openings.

Much of the small bore control piping on the top of the locomotive had wasted away. Crews began preserving the good portions, removing the old parts and cutting new threads on those pipes for unions. Replacement pipes and fittings were ordered which were being prepared for painting.

The superheater piping test stand was completed this week.

Other volunteers began sprucing up the side and various control arms for the engine house grand opening.

Some membership issues need to be addressed. If you have moved or changed phone numbers or even changed emails, (which you probably won't see this if you have) we need to be advised of those changes. Some have not renewed since last year or even two. Our Secretary, Gail, has been combing through the database and sending out emails to those that she can and even calling those without emails. We appreciate those of you that have made those payments and caught your membership renewals up to date. Remember, if you get a Christmas card, a renewal goes into that card and stands as your reminder to update your renewals.

Hope to see you on the site this week, and as always . . .

Keep on steamin',
Rick Kirby
