Work Session Status Week Ending 09/17/2016
September 21, 2016
Work progresses on the 26L air brake as our expert crew continues connecting all the components per the diagrams.
Our superheater piping crew had to repair an old Santa Fe Shop weld which didn't pass the hydro pressure test. Once the weld was removed it was quite evident why it leaked. The old butt weld was not fully penetrated.
Other projects included the installation of the several (8) sander pipes and their associated sand traps.
Crews have also been working on the painting and installation of the first section of the throttle rod.
We hope the last of the flexible staybolt replacement sleeves were welded on this past week. Other workers installed new copper seals and caps in those sleeves.
Cab crews are installing windows in custom made Black Walnut frames. Other cab workers are working on the fireman's side running various pipes and designing gauge locations. All this trim work is now possible due to all the generous souls who donated money for an engine house to protect all those valuable items which have been stored away all these many years.
We are still locating various points requiring lubrication and crews are filling those ports as needed.
The never-ending infrastructure work continues as our cold start air compressor set-up and wiring continues. A Sullair representative will be on site Wednesday to check the installation.
As last week, volunteers are still preparing the site for this year's Annual Open House this weekend, the 24th from 9-5. We look forward to seeing you all this year. Come and see all the progress the crews of the 2926 have accomplished over the past year including the new engine house if you haven't already seen it.
Hope to see you all at the site this week, and as always . . .
Keep on Steamin',
Rick Kirby, CMO
