Work Session Status Week Ending 02/11/2017
February 13, 2017
This past week we began installing the throttle valve caps by chasing the stud bolt threads. A few of the bolts are in poor condition and will need to be replaced.
As usual, air brake components were being installed along with solenoid valves.
Hydro testing of the superheater bundles is still being performed with only five units left to be done. As they say, there's a light at the end of the tunnel.
Old jacketing is also being sorted out so new segments can be fabricated. Some of the newly fabricated pieces are receiving minor adjustments for penetrations and bolt holes.
Continuous blowdown piping is being routed and bent where necessary. The original piping is all but rusted completely through.
Various steel parts are still being wire brushed, cleaned and painted on the warmer days.
Work has begun to reassemble the speed indicator wheel which operates off of the #4 driver. New bearings and seals are being installed. All the parts are being cleaned and inspected.
This will be my last TW3 for a few weeks due to Gail's hip replacement surgery. The doctor says I must stay with her for at least seven days 24-7. She won't be able to drive for at least several weeks. I expect Bob D. will be producing the weekly progress report.
Don't forget the upcoming make-up refresher course that's expected to be at the site right now. It will happen on February 25th at 9:00 AM and last approximately four hours. A New Member orientation will happen on March 4th at 9:00 AM at the site as well. Most of you already know Jon Spargo's email or phone number, so let him know if you plan to attend or if you won't be able to make it, if you haven't done so already.
Weather is a bit cool with the snow, but Wednesday should be a sunny day. Please plan to attend the work sessions, and as always . . .
Keep on Steamin',
Rick Kirby, CMO
