"Banging on a 2900"

Work Session Status Week Ending 05/05/2018

May 9, 2018

Projects this week concentrated on preparing the engine for it's next full hydro by fixing small leaks and making repairs to the flue sandbox.

As usual we made more paper templates for the jacketing fabricators, picking up those fabricated parts, checking for proper fit then on to the paint shop. When complete they are stored for future installation when test runs are complete.

Specifically our crew lapped the union joint surfaces of the water column. During our past full hydro they were seeping a bit.

After procuring new gaskets for the boiler check valve header caps, the caps were reinstalled.

A new mold for a new cab light cover was fabricated and will be made of brass using the sand casting method.

The 26L air brake system received it's final okay and blessing during the last work session.

Electricians are running more conduit in tight places.

NMSL&RHS received an award two weeks ago by the L. Bradford Prince award for significant work in the field of historic preservation in New Mexico. The New Mexico Historical Society put us in for it and we finally received it at their banquet with John T. in attendance. John T. also received an award for his history writing as well.

Don't forget the general membership meeting this weekend beginning at 0730 sharp followed by a new member class at 0900.

That's it for this week, and as always . . .

Keep on Steamin',
Rick Kirby, CMO
