"Banging on a 2900"

Work Session Status Week Ending 10/05/2019

October 7, 2019

We had a great open house this year as to visitors and contributions. The site was humming all day with early birds waiting at the gate to get an early start. Thanks to all the volunteers who put in a 10 hour day. Kudos also to B&H wholesale popcorn and workers to pop it. Other participants were Sara with her children's books, Rio Grande Model RR Club, Rail Runner, Marcia and her friend that did face-painting all day, Southwest Model RR Club. Chris Stone brought the Lego 2926 and Verde Canyon RR, TCA came and the Division 6 came. Ward M. brought his G scale Narrow Gauge layout as well. Music was provided by Los Radiators, Dr. Rock's Jazz a la Carte, and Holy Water and Whiskey.

Work resumed on Wednesday after the remaining open house equipment was stored away until needed again.

The boiler water chemical storage area in the end of one of the containers was walled off with an access door. This will enable the heating/cooling unit to maintain the desired temperature. Insulation and adhesives were purchased for the walls and ceiling areas.

Work on the drifting valves was completed as both have been installed with their end caps.

Brass forgings for the Cumbres and Toltec bearing boxes are in full swing now. We are now capable to pour pieces at once.

Interior cab work is an ongoing project as plans are made to mount various pieces of equipment not required in 1944.

Our lead in spur to our restoration site has been upgraded to Class II rail. Herzog, New Mexico railroad work company, performed all the work. We are still a considerable amount short of the estimated dollars for this upgrade, so if anyone reading this report has some dollars to donate to this project please do so.

Don't forget about the recycling event on October 19th at our site. All the information is at our website at Bring the "approved" items to our site that have been collecting dust in your home or garage. NMSL&RHS gets a share of the proceeds and based on weight.

Keep on Steamin',
