"Banging on a 2900"

Work Session Status Week Ending 07/27/2013

July 30, 2013

The past week brought us the monsoon rainy season! Rain fell Thursday and Friday flooding streets accompanied with winds gusting to 89 mph at the ABQ airport. Upon arriving on our site we found the work pit filled to within 6\" from the top. Our pump took most all day to remove the water. The work site was transformed to beach front property as they parking lot was inundated with run-off waters. I hope you'll find some photos taken on our website at

Several of the workers set about cleaning up trash and debris, removing scrap metal and repairing storage shelving.

The water injector was serviced and reassembled.

Replacement cab support fabrication continued as workers ground bevels on parts to be welded. Holes were also drilled at attachment points.

The 8\" hot water piping was fit into place and tack-welds were done where needed. It was then removed so both pipe joints could be welded. While it is being finished the piping associated with the root valve will be installed.

More small sheet metal parts were custom fit in areas around the steam cylinders.

The never ending work of flexible staybolt removal and repair continues.

Final cleaning of the trailing trucks was completed then a coat of shiny black paint was applied. Various other parts were also painted for future installation.

I hope we won't have much of a lake in the parking lot this week, but I bet we'll have mud! Hope to see you down at the site this week, and as always . . .

Keep on Steamin',
Rick Kirby, CMO
