Subject: General Meeting
Call to Order: 9:00 AM
OLD BUSINESS:
Call to Order: President Mike Hartshorne called the February General Membership meeting to order at 9:00 AM February 13, 2010 at the restoration site. Mike reported that the BoD had just finished meeting for breakfast prior to this meeting. A quorum was not present so no decisions were made or votes taken although lots of railroad discussion took place.
Treasurer’s Report: Ernie Robart had previously e-mailed the February Treasurer’s Report to the Board. Ernie reported the checking account had a beginning balance on January 9, 2010 of $15,289.49 and an ending balance on February 13th of $23,043.57. Deposits for the period totaled $13,000.90, the majority of which were donations in memory of Dick Sons, flue sponsorships, and annual membership contributions payments to the Society by a movie company for use of the restoration site and support services provided to them by the Society. Expenses were $5,646.82. The ending balance in the savings account (including $1.36 interest) was $40,115.63. There was $50.00 in petty cash yielding total cash assets of $63,209.20 as of February 13, 2010. Steve Bradford moved and Ed Strebe seconded a motion to accept the report, which was approved by voice vote.
Safety Officer’s Report: Jon reported that as promised, the first Annual Safety Refresher Session for 2010 will be held on Saturday, February 27 beginning at 9 am. The session will be held in the meeting room across from Source One Office Furniture on Menaul (A block or so east of the railroad tracks). He pointed out that each member wishing to work on the restoration site must attend one of the Annual Safety Refresher Sessions each year in order to maintain their work status. Attendance at a session in 2009 is good to be certified for the duration of 2010. Attending the February 27, 2010 session will satisfy certification requirements for 2011. This session will last about one hour. In addition to the Safety Refresher Session, there will be a second session for Worksite Safety Supervisors. This is an attempt to provide additional training for certain members so that they may function as Safety Supervisors during work sessions when the Safety Officer is not present. This training session will last about one half hour and be presented by Dave Anglen. Jon Taylor moved and Warren Janke seconded a motion to accept the report, which was approved by voice vote.
CMO Report: Rick Kirby reported that productivity was down somewhat in January due to a combination of bad weather and the use of the site for shooting of scenes for the movie “Let Me In”. Although the movie shoot was certainly disruptive of ongoing restoration, but brought in needed income. A second important event was the visit of Sam Lanter, the CMO of the Grand Canyon Railway, and Wolf Fengler from the San Bernardino Railroad Historical Society (SBRHS). They had volunteered to come and review the progress of the restoration project and provide advice on the road ahead. Both provided invaluable technical assistance at the point in time when serious repairs are about to begin on the boiler. Rick reported that now is the appropriate time to make a report to the FRA and the local inspector, Ralph Gutierrez, on how the details of planned boiler repairs and that he and Bob DeGroft are working on this report. Ralph will be invited to visit the site so that these plans can be presented to him for his review and comment. Meanwhile work progresses on building the infrastructure necessary to support a production line like process for rebuilding the superheater units. John Taylor moved and Ken Dusenberry seconded a motion to accept the report, which was approved by voice vote.
Fundraising Committee Report: Ed Strebe reported that the movie shoot had raised $6,900. On the rack card project, 3200 rack cards had been sent to the state tourism office for distribution to the various ports of entry facilities, 100 had been given to the Albuquerque Convention and Visitors Bureau (ACVB). In addition, the Society has joined the ACVB and will make a presentation to the ACVB staff on April 20th. The committee is trying to develop a method that will allow flues sponsors to pay on some kind of installment plan. The committee feels that there are a number of potential flue sponsors who ca not pay the $300 all at once and who want to be able to participate. Chuck Mangold is working on grant applications and Steve Bradford and Andy are working on the developing additional justifications for elevating #2926 to the national level of significance on the National Historic Register, and Steve Bradford is coordinating the April rail art show in cooperation with the 105 Art Gallery. Steve Bradford moved and John Taylor seconded a motion to accept the report, which was approved by voice vote.
April Art Show: Steve Bradford reported that plans are on track for the railroad art show scheduled to kick-off with an opening night on Friday, April 2nd at the 105 Art Gallery at 105 4th St SW (a block south of Central in the downtown area). Half the proceeds of any artwork sold during the show will go to the NMSLRHS. The show will feature nationally known rail artists. So far, Gil Bennet, David Oram, and Bryan Neumann have accepted and will put paintings in the show. In additional to these well-known rail artists, local and regional artists will also be in the show. Artists will be allowed to enter from 1-4 pieces of art. The Society is assisting with mailing lists, provision of railroad artifacts and memorabilia for display during the show, which will run throughout the entire month of April
NEW BUSINESS: None
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
Next Meeting: The next Membership Meeting will be held at 9:00 AM March 13, 2010 at the restoration site.
