NM5SX

You ask yourself 'What?
This is our new F.C.C. issued Amateur Radio - or HAM - call sign.
But why do we want one? Let me try to explain - :

Hams' like to talk - allot! That's' why there is a Ham presence in the world of over 2.6 million licensed hams (see http://www.qsl.net/yo5ofh/others/how_many_hams.htm ). And we really like to talk to places we call 'Special Event Stations'. See http://www.arrl.org/contests/spev.html for a list of upcoming special events.
in fact, another Steam outfit had a special event station on April 5th.
"Apr 5, 1500Z-1900Z, Pine Bluff, AR. Pine Bluff Amateur Radio Club, K5DAK. 819 Steam Locomotive and Museum. 14.250. QSL. E. Glenn Wolf Jr, 210 S Estates Cove, White Hall, AR 71602."

Once 2926 starts plying the rails we will have an amateur radio station onboard capable of talking to the entire world - if atmospheric conditions are right - which will become a 'Special Event Station'. Hams' from around the world will want to have a QSO, ham shorthand for contact, with us. We have, at present, 5 licensed hams in NMSL&RHS.
They are - Jon Spargo, KC5NTW, Marlin Allison, K5MHA, Travis Atwell, KD5ZCS, Harold Payne, KD5ET and Gary Bonebrake, W5BI who is our station trustee.
If you are a member and have a license and are not listed contact me at mallison@nmslrhs.org so I can add you to the list.

What's next? We will be installing a ham radio in the reefer, a tower outside with several antennas including wi-fi. This equipment is all being donated.

If you are interested in becoming a ham - contact Marlin Allison at mallison@nmslrhs.org
or goto http://www.hello-radio.org/ - http://www.nmscares.org - http://www.bc-ares.org/

MORSE CODE is no longer required for ham licences!!
