Outreach Program
The NMSL&RHS has an extensive educational and outreach program to give the public access to information on the history of railroading in New Mexico, and the status of our efforts to restore ATSF locomotive 2926.
Key elements are:
Educational Program providing information packages on
railroad history and technology for use by teachers of children from kindergarten
through grade 12. Class visits can be arranged by contacting the society.
Newsletter Issued quarterly to update members on progress on the restoration and news items of interest on railroading.
Open Houses held annually to offer the public the opportunity to tour the restoration facility and see the progress in restoring the locomotive and tender. Lectures are provided on steam engine technology, New Mexico railroad history and other topics of interest.
Site Visits during Wednesday and Saturday work sessions, open to the public, including escorted tours of the restoration site and the locomotive.
Lectures on the 2926 restoration effort, available to interested organizations, including audio/visual presentations.
