"Banging on a 2900"
5-03-08 Saturday Work Session
A good long day with the weather on our side for once.
UT started on the side sheets of the boiler with good results so far. Gridding in the firebox surged forward and we have it about 2/3rds done. Wednesday just might finish it up; and if so I recommend we switch the UT to the inside next week. The faster we get the interior done the faster we can start the tubes and flues.
We got a lot of the crust out of the sand dome and found two of the sander tubes had bolts in them that effectively sealed them up. Employee sabotage or accident? We found a bolt plugging one of the cylinder cocks last week.
Johnny Plath, our super electrician visited and got one more container wired up, and he and Ormson are finishing the last one as we write today. We also got a frame welded up for the reefer AC unit so it can be installed next week and wired in soon.
More wire brushing of the steam fountain covers, they will need a little straightening after that and then a coat of paint.
The FW pump was cleaned externally except for the bottom side which we will do next week.
Good workday gang!
